I always felt so privileged to study in a community that placed such a strong emphasis on foreign language study, and I remember the classes being so much fun! I still remember memorizing a French rap in Ms Rela's class my junior year of high school, watching authentic French newscasts (and feeling shocked when I understood everything), reading poetry in Latin classes with Mr. Pearsall and having extensive conversations about fashion with Ms. Richter.

Thanks to what I learned in Glastonbury, when I got to Harvard I was able to place into the most advanced French language classes, and even decided to take up Italian! Eventually I studied in Italy and upon returning took Italian literature classes as well.

I'm a Spanish teacher at The School at Columbia University, so I use that language every day. Though I don't use my French or Latin as much as I'd like to today, the lessons that my teachers in Glastonbury modeled for me have helped me as a language teacher at Columbia. Thank you for all you've done and continue to do.

Oh, and advice for students? Mmmmmm . . . take risks, be silly and above all, have fun.
