I went on the Spanish exchange my senior year at GHS. I found by the time I left I no longer had to think about understanding the language and that it just came naturally to me. It was after this trip that I began thinking about majoring in Spanish.

I have found during my two years at UConn that the Spanish program at GHS has helped prepare me above and beyond what professors expect. My senior year in high school I took AP Spanish so I started off taking Spanish classes with juniors and seniors my freshman year. I found the classes to be much easier than many of the other students in my class and from my trip to Spain with the high school and many years of Spanish I was able to write six page essays and give twenty minute presentations with ease. To students studying foreign language I would encourage them to continue as they get older and work hard to understand the language and culture. I believe language skills are invaluable assets especially as our nation becomes more and more diverse. Being able to speak Spanish fluently has proven to be a valuable asset for jobs in the business world. For the careers that I am looking at dealing with international business it is important to understand the cultures and languages of different countries.
