Being a graduate of the GHS language program has made it possible for me to come as far as I have in my studies and in my career.  The strong foundations of language were laid in Glastonbury and I was able to take that with me to UConn.  At UConn I took advanced level language classes in Spanish and I continued developing my French.  In one of my college classes I reread a book that I had previously read in high school Spanish class and writing a six page analysis of that book was not a problem.  I was amazed that I was able to adapt so well to that class that I had been initially afraid to sign up for.  I went on to do graduate work in French and my experiences in Glastonbury once again proved useful when I assisted with the High School Cooperative program.  When I pursued my teaching career I was finally able to fully understand the worth of Glastonbury as its program was mentioned in several of my language method classes and textbooks.  I had a professor who lectured me on the virtues of my own experiences in language learning in my own hometown.  While I was determined to get a job without the help of Glastonbury's good reputation, I realized it was next to impossible because at each interview, people were impressed that I had grown up here.  In the long run, I think it has helped me to secure my current job as a French teacher at Bristow Middle School in West Hartford.  The nice thing about growing up in this town is that even after graduating, the language teachers still continue to support you and encourage you as they have done for me.  It was up to me to want to continue, but the Glastonbury program made sure that I had that particular desire.  One of my goals listed in my yearbook states that I wanted to become fluent in French.  I do not think I am far from achieving that goal.
